Even Faster
The P5 is the perfect bike for racing against the clock. It was built with a single purpose: to get you from point A to point B in the shortest time possible.
Equally at home on the Big Island as it is in a crucial time trial at the Tour de France, the P5 delivers exceptional performance. The past decade of road racing has demonstrated the importance of riding a perfect time trial in a Grand Tour, and the P5 was undoubtedly a key part of Team Jumbo-Visma's victories at the Giro d'Italia and the Tour de France in 2023.
For the new version, Cervelo focused on creating a platform that could take full advantage of the latest generation of wheels-the most cutting-edge on the market. The new rims can accommodate 34 mm tires, improving aerodynamics and reducing rolling resistance. The basebar is now lower to reduce the CdA (estimated aerodynamic drag coefficient), and the extensions can now be adjusted between 0 and 30 degrees in 5-millimeter increments. For triathletes, a range of storage options is included, as proper calorie intake can often be a deciding factor in the final result.
Simplicity and adjustability
The new one-piece front end (first tested on the S5) appears to be easier to assemble and adjust; the stack is now adjustable up to 40 mm, while the base height has been lowered by 10 mm to minimize the frontal area. The new riser increases the range of tilt adjustment, from 0 to 30 degrees, in 5-degree increments.
Speed
From an aerodynamic standpoint, the new P5 frame is about one watt faster than the previous model and accommodates tires up to 34 mm wide. This clearance translates to ample space for the new Reserve 77/88 wheelset and the 29 mm Vittoria tire, resulting in a savings of about 4 watts compared to the previous Reserve/Vittoria combination, for a total savings of about 5 watts.
Comfort and Control
The new P5 seat pads are wider, taller, and thicker than before. They're definitely more comfortable, but also safer. A larger contact surface allows for better control, which means you can stay in the most aerodynamic position possible for longer.
Compliance
The new fastback seatstay design reduces vertical stiffness by about 22% (while maintaining the lateral stiffness necessary for power transfer). The TT position is unforgiving (to put it mildly), but the new P5 will help you enter T2 feeling much fresher.
